Mason Jars Clip Art Set

My Mason Jars Clip Art were created in Illustrator. There are two sets: simple black, so you can do with them what you will, and gorgeous colored clip art. You get many already assembled jars, as well as separate images for the tulip flowers, the hanging loop, and the "Ball" label, so you can create your own jars too!

This set includes sixty images in PNG format (transparent background) in varying sizes - they are all approx 6 inches at their tallest point, but vary in width, all at 300 dpi.

The Police Boxes are Back!

Today I decided to open up a second Etsy shop for my scrapbooking, clip art, digital stamps, and digital scrapbook papers.  (I just couldn't handle having them in with all of my handbags and quilts! The two things just don't go together.)  Hopefully having two Etsy shops will go very smoothly.  I wish Etsy would let you have two shops under the same account, but alas, they do not.  I can't even link up my Facebook and Twitter accounts.

I've reposted all of the designs I had in my original shop (with shiny, matching product photos), and I've added a couple new ones.

Birthday Presents Clip Art Set

First there's the Birthday Presents Clip Art set, consisting of six brightly colored wrapped presents in solids and polka dots.  I used these once for a bridal shower invitation, but they work just as well for birthday presents.

Next is the Baby Shower Gifts Clip Art set in three newborn baby colors - yellow, blue, and pink.  For the showers where you know the gender of the baby to be, and the ones where the mommy to be is keeping it a surprise.  There is a pile of alphabet blocks, a onesie, a teddy bear, a milk bottle, and a rattle.  There are fifteen images in all for this set.

The Retro Campers Digital Stamp Set is actually brand spanking new.  I just drew these a week or so ago.  There are four retro style campers in funky shapes, and two cacti, a tall one with arms and one of the stubby ball shaped ones.  I've got no idea what they're properly called.  I don't think I've ever even seen one in real life.  All of these elements are illustrated in a sleek, yet hand drawn style.  Look close and you'll see what I mean.  I really love this set.  :)

And finally there's the Lunar Phases Digital Stamp Set.  These are done in the same sleek, yet hand drawn style as the Retro Campers, and depict the eight phases of the moon.  These come in eight individual files, so they can be arranged as you please.  

Pink & White Chevron Baby Quilt

My friends are reproducing like pregnancy is going out of style.  While their children are adorable, it hasn't exactly given me the yen to make one of my own.  But is has made me want to give my friends awesome baby presents.


Quilts are so functional and fun, and they'll grow with the baby - from crib, to play mat, to nap time.  They're soft and cuddly, and one of those things that you keep forever.


So here's my first offering for my Etsy shop.


My Pink and White Chevron Baby Quilt was made from bright pink and white 100% quilting cotton, with echo quilting in matching pink thread. It's super soft and very cozy. 

It measures 53 x 42 inches. It can be used as a baby blanket, as a play mat, in the crib or at nap time. Big enough to grow with your baby, and a pretty accent for toddler's first bed. Also great as a throw or lap quilt. Looks beautiful draped over a chair or foot of a bed.

Washing instructions: machine wash cold, permanent press. Tumble dry.

More Bucket Bags!

 

I am a bucket bag making machine.  My Bucket Bags now come in navy blue, dove gray, and army green.  (Also available in navy and cream ticking stripes, chocolate brown, and jet black.)

These bags are slightly different from the first batch, because I changed the exterior pocket.  These don't have the darts, and I modified the shape of the pocket a little bit.  I think it looks sleek and lovely this way.

I've got three more bags coming up in exciting new colors: royal blue, bright white, and wine red.  They are going to be so pretty!  I thought I would get them made today, but taking photos and updating all my shop things took much longer than I thought it would.  Hopefully I will have photos up by Wednesday/Thursday.

Changed Prices

I've changed my prices dramatically, and I thought I should explain myself.

This past month Etsy has had lots of online labs and blog articles about pricing handmade items.  I haven't really looked at my pricing strategy since I started my shop last August.  I didn't really know what I was doing back then, but it's been awhile and I've learned a lot since starting my shop.  It was time to take a good long look at my prices, because I knew they were too low.  Many of my items have changed since I started out - my Police Box Wristlets, for example, are way more awesome now than they were when I started making them. I think I've got them to a point where I can call them perfect, but that also means that there's a bit more time that goes into making them.  The old price did not reflect the current quality well.

After watching the labs I made up a meticulous spreadsheet.  After plugging in many numbers, and waffling over how much I'm comfortable paying myself, I realized that I was really undervaluing my products and myself.  Looking at these numbers, I know I've been undervaluing myself as an artist.

Plus, I need to eat.  That whole starving artist cliche is looming ever closer to becoming a reality.

So that's why my prices have been raised.  The thing is, I'm not even close to charging what I ought to be.  But what I ought to be charging is scary.  Scarier still is that I haven't sold anything since I've raised my prices.

Food.  Rent.  Cue panic attack.

I love my Union Jack wristlet so much!  It's gorgeous!  The fabrics look so luxurious next to each other - corduroy, twill and canvas - and the colors are so deep and rich.  I like the size too.  It's a little more square than my other wristlets.

The Union Jack Wristlet was made by me, and measures 4 1/4 x 6 inches (11 1/2 with the strap). It showcases a British flag stitched from luxe fabrics. The exterior is made of navy twill, crimson corduroy, and cream canvas. The interior is made of a matching cotton in a crimson and brown stripe.

First Etsy Holiday Season

Do you guys hear that?  It's my stress levels rising.  I realized today that Christmas is coming, and it's coming up fast.  In the past I never got too stressed about the holiday shopping season.  I mean, with Cafepress and Zazzle, there's not a whole lot for me to do other than add new products and promote my stuff.  But with Etsy I've got to worry about everything.  Mostly inventory.

I want to have a great holiday season, and I know that I'll make more sales come November/December, but the trouble is I may not have the time to make all the wristlets I'll be able to sell.  Thus, I need to build up inventory.  Lots of inventory.

I've been making up charts and calendars and making deadlines, and trying to figure out how many wristlets I'll be able to make before the holidays get going.  The other trouble is getting the money to buy the materials to make the wristlets.  Oh, the delicate balance.

I have a feeling this holiday season is going to drive me nutty.  On the plus side, I'm super organized now.

Police Box Wristlet in Navy Corduroy

Police Box Wristlet in Navy Corduroy

I love my Police Box Wristlet in navy corduroy!  I mean, the canvas version is very nice (and a perfect TARDIS blue), but this one is just so damn pretty.

I used a navy corduroy with very narrow lines, and matching blue cotton for the interior lining.  It measures 7 x 4 inches (with the strap 12 1/2 x 4 inches). It rocks appliqued details with zig zag stitching, six tiny decorative pockets, and cotton lining fabric in coordinating colors. The exterior has been interfaced for added structure.

Wristlets are perfect for running errands or a night on the town - anywhere you don't want to haul around a big purse. Perhaps on an adventure through time and space?

WIP: Houndstooth Quilt

Meet the squares that have taken over my life.  They look so innocent, don't they?  They're just tiny diagonal blocks, but I spent seven hours today making nine of those stacks, and I'm looking at another seven hours to make the rest of the diagonal blocks I need for my quilt.  On the plus side, they are damn fine looking squares.  I'm really excited about this quilt.  It's going to be gorgeous.  I got this really nice Kona cotton in espresso and cream, and I love the houndstooth pattern.  It's too big for a bag, but it will be perfect for a quilt.  I love houndstooth.

I am going to sell this on Etsy when I'm finished.  (*I will not keep this quilt.  I will not keep this quilt.  I will not keep this quilt.*)  Right now I'm estimating that it's going to cost somewhere in the $500 dollar range.  I will keep my blog updated as to my progress.

I'd love to be able to take custom quilt orders (maybe just one or two a month).  I think the houndstooth quilt would look amazing in unexpected colors.  Like aquamarine or raspberry.

The Boldly Go Wristlet in gray and blue was designed by me, and measures 3 3/4 x 7 inches (3 3/4 x 12 inches with the strap). It features a screen printed star ship surrounded by stars with the phrase, "Boldly Go," in metallic blue fabric paint. The exterior is light gray cotton (which has been interfaced for structural support), and the interior is made of white cotton.

This wristlet makes a great gift for yourself or for your favorite geeky friend. Wristlets are perfect for running errands or a night on the town - anywhere you don't want to haul around a big purse.
